Ener-Tec, Inc. has many LKC Systems installed in the steel mills for the removal and prevention of scale in cooling towers, water-cooled air compressors, process water, cupolas, etc.
US Steel discovered that the section of the plant using the Ener-Tec LKC System was not only free of scale but was also free of Zebra Mussels as well, while the rest of the plant was still experiencing the zebra mussel problems.
This initiated test projects that confirmed that the LKC System does eliminate zebra mussels by preventing calcium carbonate lattice structure formation, which is the foundation for the zebra mussel to build its shell. Without the shell, the zebra mussel cannot survive the environment surrounding its body. It simply dies from exposure.
Live mussels were placed in containment trays and exposed to treated and untreated water. The controlled tests using LKC treated water showed a drastic decrease in zebra mussel weight due to shell weight loss.
Shell weight loss is based on the same principle as removing scale in water lines. The polarization of the water molecules reduces the energy level within the water. Water molecules penetrate the calcium carbonate, breaking the molecular bond that holds the shell intact, resulting in the destruction of the shell.
